The Bitter Truth Golden Falernum Liqueur is an exotic, spiced liqueur built a base of fine Caribbean rum. In ancient Rome, falernum was the name of the most favoured and expensive wine, though modern falernum has almost nothing in common with its ancient predecessor—except its rich golden hue. This sweet liqueur was usually flavoured with limes, almonds, cloves and ginger, coming to prominence during the tiki era in the middle of the 20th century.

This falernum is gold in colour, taste, and texture—but never one note, it's a calypso of flavour. On the nose are fresh limes, seashell, and ginger with just a hint of Christmas spice. The taste carnivals from fresh ginger to vanilla and almond, surfing towards an atomic fireball. Allspice giving into a splash of lime and a delicate hint of Bajan sweet pepper sauce-like heat. With length that feels like a two week holiday, this little number can perk up any aged spirit and instantly turn it into a drink worthy of adornment with a plastic monkey and paper umbrella. At 18% alcohol, The Bitter Truth Golden Falernum Liqueur is stronger than other falernums while still having a lower alcohol content than most liqueurs, lending itself to both use in cocktails or drunk on its own over ice.

Enjoy neat, on ice, or in a Corn & Oil. Its main use in conteporary bars is as part of a well-stocked tiki backbar, featuring in drinks like Three Dots & a Dash, or the Zombie.

About The Bitter Truth:

Munich bartenders Stephan Berg and Alexander Hauck were already experienced in making handmade bitters at the bars they worked at when they decided to produce cocktail bitters to supply the burgeoning revival of historical and craft cocktails. Stephan owned a large collection of contemporary and historical bitters, some of which hadn’t been produced for decades. Thus he knew what the most well-known bitters of the world, past and present, tasted like and was considered a specialist in the area. Since 2006 The Bitter Truth has been producing bitters using the classic method of macerating roots, seeds, barks, fruits, herbs, and plants in an alcohol base. The design of the bitters bottle refers to old medicine bottles from the 19th century and the label was designed with old-fashioned floral ornaments reminiscent of the golden age of cocktails.
