The Bitter Truth E**X**R is a herbal bitter liqueur that follows the traditions of both classic sweet vermouths and alpine digestive amari. It’s as delicate as the finest vermouths while being bottled at an alcohol content that allows it to defy oxidation and the need for refrigeration. A modernist amaro, E**X**R sits somewhere between the raisin, dry spice of a sweet vermouth and the bitter, herbal characteristics of an Italian amaro.

E**X**R is velvety smooth while at the same time clean, aromatic and herbaceous. It embodies the caramel sweetness of port and the bitter flavors of a classic Italian amaro.Beginning with a nose of pine ash and lemon balm, the palate shows notes of stewed rhubarb, dark chocolate, sweet coffee, and wild flora like mint and gentian.

Try with ginger ale for a refresing long drink, or replace the gin in a Negroni with E**X**R for a herbal variation. Also great in the rum-forward Bavarian Manhattan.

About The Bitter Truth:

Munich bartenders Stephan Berg and Alexander Hauck were already experienced in making handmade bitters at the bars they worked at when they decided to produce cocktail bitters to supply the burgeoning revival of historical and craft cocktails. Stephan owned a large collection of contemporary and historical bitters, some of which hadn’t been produced for decades. Thus he knew what the most well-known bitters of the world, past and present, tasted like and was considered a specialist in the area. Since 2006 The Bitter Truth has been producing bitters using the classic method of macerating roots, seeds, barks, fruits, herbs, and plants in an alcohol base. The design of the bitters bottle refers to old medicine bottles from the 19th century and the label was designed with old-fashioned floral ornaments reminiscent of the golden age of cocktails.
