Five Classic Cocktails using Luxardo Maraschino Liqueur

Made in Torreglia, Italy, Luxardo Maraschino follows the original recipe from 1821 and requires four years to produce. Marasca cherries are harvested from Luxardo's own trees and the solid components are then infused in larchwood vats for three years. The product is distilled in small copper pot stills and aged in Finnish ash wood for the remaining year. Finally, a combination of sugar and water is added before bottling in the iconic straw-covered bottle.

Clear in colour, Luxardo Maraschino has a rounded taste and a surprisingly persistent aroma. The aroma is typical of marasca cherry distillate with a roasted nuttiness over more subtle notes of pine, spearmint, anise, and fennel.

We have rouded up five of our favourite cocktails that use Luxardo Maraschino Liqueur for you to try at home.

Oxford Comma

This herbaceous Martini twist, uses Maraschino as a delicate sweetener to balance the intensity of the Chartreuse and celery bitters.

Martinez

Emerging in the 1860s as an evolution of the Manhattan and a precursor to the Martini, the Martinez uses Maraschino to hint of fruity sweetness. For extra historical accuracy we have used Bogart’s Bitters from The Bitter Truth, a reproduction of the original Boker’s bitters.
